Notes From The Pacific North West

The range of landscape in the pacific northwest are unreal! from pacific coast, to glacial mountaintops, to lake valleys, and lush rainforest. my inspiration cup is so full!

So last month we took a lil family trip out to Olympic National Park and, just, dang! I am always so inspired by the new places I am able to visit. I try to take in all that I can, absorbing the colors, sounds, smells, and feel of a new place. I collect items and imagery and file it away in my head and wait to see how the new elements combine with my gestures, process, and memories as it pours out into my work. It is such an exciting, generative, and critical aspect of my creative process.

I do try to approach my everyday with the same openness to wonder that I do when I am able to travel, but there is some very special inspiration magic that happens when a change of scenery is possible. I am endlessly grateful for the diversity of natural wonders the Pacific NW had to offer, and am thoroughly enjoying all the ways it will show up in my practice going forward.

Currently the colors and textures are so present in my mind, and I find myself gravitating back to building up textures and playing with finishes. So so so many ideas!

of course i had to make a couple of sketches! I love traveling with my ipad to make these quick and clean studies

these rock formations on the shoreline were SUMBLIME! I was so excited to see them! I could have stared at them all day if we had the time. the sound of the waves on the pebble filled beach, the cold ocean water and the bright sun. beaches are such a gift!
